  • Duran Duran - Girls On Film [Uncensored]
"Girls on Film" was the third single from Duran Duran's first album, Duran Duran, and has become one of the band's signature songs. It was released on 13 July, 1981, and reached Number 5 in the UK Singles Chart on 25 July. The band was unknown in the United States at that point. The song did not chart in the U.S. on its initial release, but it became popular and widely known there after receiving heavy airplay on MTV when the Duran Duran album was re-issued in 1983. It was the band's second hit single in Australia, peaking at #11.Author: hushhush112Tags: Duran Girls On Film Uncensored new wave power glam pop simon lebon nick rhodes john roger taylor birmingham england british invasion mtv Posted: 29 January 2007Rating: 4.4Votes: 41

  • Dead Or Alive - Spin Me Round
"You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" is a song originally released by Dead or Alive on their 1985 album Youthquake. This song was the first UK number-one hit for the Stock Aitken Waterman production trio. Originally released in November 1984, the record reached number one in March 1985, taking fifteen weeks to get there. The music video for the song is cheaply made, very surreal and tells no story, but the visuals are nevertheless bizarre (such as Pete Burns in a purple kimono, seemingly growing extra arms, or him with the infamous eyepatch; the other three band members tied up in some ribbons; close-ups of a disco ball, etc.). At the end the other three band members wave flags around in circles, and Burns is tied up in a gold ribbon. The 1996 remix video involves Burns posing and lip-synching in various locations and outfits. The 2003 video has only Burns, drummer Steve Coy, and keyboardist Jason Alburey, spinning in gold CGI swirls. Burns once again constantly changes outfits, and is also pictured on a spinning bed.Author: hushhush112Tags: Dead Or Alive Spin Me Round like a record youthquake 80s eighties retro classics one hit wonder British new wave band liverpool england Posted: 29 January 2007Rating: 4.9Votes: 64

  • DUBAI: HYDROPOLIS HOTEL
DUBAI: HYDROPOLIS HOTEL This hotel, the world's first underwater luxury resort, brings new meaning to the "ocean-view room." Situated 66 feet below the surface of the Persian Gulf, Hydropolis will feature 220 guest suites. Reinforced by concrete and steel, its Plexiglas walls and bubble-shaped dome ceilings offer sights of fish and other sea creatures. It is scheduled to open in late 2007. The Hydropolis is a self-acclaimed 10-star, underwater hotel which was under construction in Dubai. However, as of February 2007, Hydropolis' launch has been relaunched, due to cost issues and concerns over the project's impact on marine life, the project has faced major delays. Hyrdropolis is envisioned as a fantasy hotel beneath the waves. This submarine hotel is inspired by the Jules Verne tale 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It will be an underwater oasis where visitors can marvel at the architecture surrounding them, and the sea beyond. The project is divided into three sections. The "land station" is the complex where visitors are first greeted. It is a large building with a roof that dips and rolls like the crest of a wave. From there, people enter a tunnel to begin their journey to the hotel, itself. The tunnel is 1,700 feet long and carries a train beneath both the land and the sea. The destination, of course, is the hotel itself. Mimicking natural forms, it is shaped like a collection of bubbles and curves designed to provide maximum resistance against the everyday pressures of the sea water as well as the occasional typhoon that may stray into this area. It has already been compared to both a jellyfish and a sea turtle. It features a pair of observation domes which allow an expansive view of the water and the creatures that live in it. They are large enough to emerge above the waves, and one is planned with a retractable roof allowing people to be surrounded by the ocean while looking directly into the sky. • Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax
Frankie Goes to Hollywood (FGTH) was one of the most controversial and commercially successful UK new wave acts of the early 1980s. The Liverpool group was fronted by vocalist Holly Johnson, supported by Paul Rutherford (backing vocals), Peter Gill (drums), Mark O'Toole (bass) and Brian Nash (guitar). The group's debut single "Relax" was famously banned by the BBC while at number six in the charts, and subsequently topped the UK singles chart for five consecutive weeks, going on to enjoy prolonged chart success throughout 1984 and ultimately becoming the seventh best-selling UK single of all time (as of May 2006). Following the phenomenal follow-up success of "Two Tribes" and the seasonal "The Power Of Love", FGTH became only the second act in the history of the UK charts to reach number one with their first three singles (the first being Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1964).Author: hushhush112Tags: Frankie Goes To Hollywood Relax fgth uk new wave liverpool holly johnson dance pop bbc Posted: 28 January 2007Rating: 5.0Votes: 22

  • DEPECHE MODE - BLASPHEMOUS RUMOURS
"Blasphemous Rumours" is Depeche Mode's twelfth UK single (released on October 29, 1984), from the album Some Great Reward. It is the first Double A-Side Depeche Mode single in the UK, although the U.S. has several more (including See You/The Meaning of Love and Home/Useless). "Somebody" is the first single with Martin Gore as lead vocals, and only one of three. Other than the 7" mixes, there are no remixes of "Blasphemous Rumours" or "Somebody". The single version of "Somebody" includes a heartbeat added most noticeably to the beginning of the song, whereas the original album version only has the beat towards the end. The single version of "Blasphemous Rumours" is exactly the same as the album version, though it fades out during the final choral repetition, eliminating the "life support machine" outro of the album version. The "Blasphemous Rumours" music video and the "Somebody" music video were directed by Clive Richardson. The two incidents mentioned in the lyrics to "Blasphemous Rumours" are reportedly based on true stories. Singer Dave Gahan tells the story of a sixteen-year-old girl's failed attempt to kill herself by slitting her wrists, and the story of an eighteen-year-old girl who renews her faith in God only to be struck by a car, end up on life support, and die shortly afterwards. The conclusion: "I think that God's got a sick sense of humour, and when I die, I expect to find Him laughing." By contrast, "Somebody," which was sung by Martin L. Gore himself, is a softer, more gentle love song in which Gore sings of his desire to find someone to be his lover and his confidant and who respects his opinions about "the world we live in and life in general," though she may not necessarily agree with them. • No Doubt - Just A Girl
Just a Girl" is the first single from the breakthrough 1995 album, Tragic Kingdom, by No Doubt. The famous opening riff that guitarist Tom Dumont uses was actually taken from an earlier Eric Stefani effort.[1] Matthew Wilder, Tragic Kingdom's producer, was instrumental in teaching the band simplicity in getting a song's idea across. Gwen Stefani came up with the title.[1] The song itself discusses the paradox of post-feminism. The song is heavily influenced by New Wave music, using synth noise from a Roland Jupiter 8, '80s keyboards and effects, and retro sounds. The song helped No Doubt's career immensely, peaking #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #10 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.[2] It was also featured in the movie Clueless and the opening credits of Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.Author: hushhush112Tags: No Doubt Justa Girl gwen stefani anaheim california ska dub reggae pop tragic kingdom mtv muchmusic music video Posted: 13 January 2007Rating: 5.0Votes: 17
