  • Chasing SP 4449 [Portland, OR to Maryville, WA]
    Here is part of the first leg of the SP 4449's trip to TrainFest 2009 in Owosso, Michagin; a fantastic cross-country trip! At 8 AM, the Daylight departs Portland's Union Station, dead set for it's trip to Washington, through the Gorge, and ending it's first leg of her trip in Spokane, WA. I (or, alteast tried my best to...) followed her along her way to her first service stop at Wishram, WA. I managed to stop at Washougal, WA to catch her running by another time after Portland, OR. After the run by in Washougal, it was quite hard to catch up with her after that. I was able to see her a few times again long Highway 14, but that was about it. After her service stop at Wishram, I headed up a few miles with a couple friends of mine to Maryville, WA, where I captured the 4449's running by one last time. This was a great chase!     We crossed the Jordanian border (by foot!) into Aqaba - essentially the middle of the desert with absolutely nothing around you. After a two-hour drive (and some off-roading in the desert as the cab driver was attempting to play tour guide) we arrived in Petra. At one point the cab actually broke down and I thought we were about to be stranded, but aside from being a cab driver and a tour guide, our driver was part mechanic and managed to get the car running again. The next day we headed out for Petra - the location where Harrison Ford finally found the Holy Grail in the film Indiana Jones and the last Crusade. It looked cool in the movie and it certainly didn't disappoint in person! Basically it's a bunch of buildings (a treasury, a monastery and a couple others) carved into the rock mountains in the desert.   • PNWR Harbor Turn Chase - Part 1
    PNWR Harbor Turn Chase - Part 1 [Beaverton (Farmington Rd.) to Hillsboro (Susbauer Rd.)] On a very nice Saturday morning of May 16th, the Harbor Turn takes off from Tigard onroute to Harbor in Linnton, Oregon. The Harbor had PNWR 2314 (GP39-2), PNWR 2303 (GP39-2), and PNWR 2306 (GP39-2) that day and I decided to chase this train on it's adventure. This was my first actual chase of a frieght train and I had over 70 minutes captured to edit. Since I can't post one, 70 minute video, I'm splitting my chase up into about seven parts. In part one, I first catch the Harbor blazing along Farmington Road on it's way into Hillsboro to turn and head towards Banks. Then, we pace it along side TV Highway and speed up to Garabaldi Street (Mahan Siding) to get a warm horn welcome of "Smoke On The Water" (being played by our very own Matt Adams). Finally, we catch our train passing by Susbauer Road crossing, on it's way to Schefflin, and then onto Banks.
